Welcome to Canal Winchester Middle School! We are excited to have you as part of our school community!
Our staff has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming school year in order to provide our students with the best possible experience. The building, grounds, and classrooms have been cleaned and updated in anticipation of student arrival. Teachers have been attending classes and preparing lessons in order to challenge and engage our students. We have hired new staff who are becoming familiar with our curriculum and building. These new staff members include:
Devin Caporuscio - Intervention Specialist
Vanessa Chow - 7th Grade Math/Science
Kristy Crooks - transfer – Guidance
Alexandra Giacobbe - WTES/MS Art
Gina Keels - transfer - Intervention Specialist
Patricia Kuhn-Morgan- Principal
David Locker - Health and Physical Education
Alyssa Pagano-Locker - 6th Grade English/LA
Dane Richards - 8th Grade Social Studies
Jacob Schooler - High School/Middle School Science
In order to empower our students, we will be initiating design challenges and focusing on project-based learning (PBL) in our classrooms and in our learning teams. This will look a little different than a traditional classroom. Part of the PBL process is working in collaborative teams, allowing students to have choice and giving them permission to struggle. Additionally, students have increased opportunities to connect with real world problems and issues. For more information about PBL, check out the Buck Institute for PBL at http://bie.org.
We will also be focusing on the character traits of responsibility, readiness and respect and how these qualities carry over into all areas of our building as well as transfer to the world at large.
I believe parents and community partners are an integral piece of a successful school system and I invite your communications, ideas and involvement. As I am entering my 18th year in education, I couldn’t be more pleased to be serving as the building principal of Canal Winchester Middle School and look forward to a wonderful school year.
