A Message from the Principal
2014-15 School Year

Dear Students and Families,

At Canal Winchester Middle School we support our students’ educational journeys by fostering their academic, social, and emotional needs. We believe that regardless of background, students can grow their academic skills, content knowledge, healthy habits, and sound decision making. All students can develop characteristics such as perseverance, resourcefulness, responsibility, and empathy - qualities that are essential wherever their personal journeys may take them. Our ultimate goal is for students to develop into quality individuals who create meaningful lives for themselves and who make a difference in the lives of others.

In acting upon our commitment to serve all students, CWMS staff members work collaboratively to care for each student as well as align our curriculum and assessments to district and state frameworks including the Common Core State Standards. We strive to empower our students to become critical thinkers who produce quality work of which they can be proud. Students are expected to do their jobs each day: to actively participate in class, to complete their work, and to be kind and respectful towards others. It is our mission to instill in our students the belief and confidence that they possess the skills, capacity, and creativity to lead fulfilling, productive lives and positively contribute to the community and the world in which they live.

In tandem with our academic and enrichment programs, we deliberately include students in creating a positive school community. Each student makes a difference in shaping a healthy learning environment - in the classroom, the hallways, the lunch room, and on the bus. Students are provided opportunities that will guide them into leadership roles and assist in the development of skills necessary for finding solutions to challenges. We aspire for all students to feel important and to recognize that they influence what happens to and what goes on around them each day.

As an educator, I believe that the academic and social success of all students is a collaborative endeavor requiring the dedication of all stakeholders – students, parents, school and district staff, and community partners. I invite you to participate in our endeavor to continue to provide a safe, challenging and nurturing environment for all of our students.
