Questions & Answers
Is High school busing being eliminated?
For school year 2011-12 high school students will be bused.  However, a November 2011 school levy will be on the ballot, should it fail high school busing would likely be eliminated.  If the levy passes, beginning the 2012-13 school year high school students that live in subdivisions within walking distance of the high school would no longer be bused and would be responsible for their own transportation. Please see UPDATES

I heard the grading scale at the high scale was going to change next year. A would be >90 instead of 92.5 and the AP classes would be weighted like the other school districts?
This topic was presented to the Board of Education at the Feb 14th meeting.  There have been no official changes made at this time.
I heard that "skinny jeans" would be forbidden in the middle school next year, as part of many changes by the new assistant principal?
There is no ban or proposed ban on skinny jeans for the school district.  What you have heard is in fact a "rumor".  In following with the Student Handbook:
While fashion changes, the reason for being in school does not. Students are in school to learn. Any fashion (dress, accessory, or hairstyle) that disrupts the educational process or presents a safety risk will not be permitted.
The list of specific rules and expectations can be found in each handbook.  The handbooks are located on the website under each school building page.

For more information please contact the district office 837-4533

Why are parents being asked to to supply ID to pick up their own children at CW schools, including those of school employees and active parents in the community?

In an effort to increase safety for all of our students we ask that any person picking up a student show identification. Due to the sensitive nature of this precaution ALL persons are asked to show identification. This demonstrates a standard of practice and prevents questions of why someone may or may not have been asked to show identification. Not all employees know one another and a first time visitor to the school should not have to decipher why they were asked for identification and the next person (active parent in the community) was not. We do not discriminate when it comes to the safety of the students in our district.

I heard the school used tax dollars for the new turf field?

Canal Winchester Schools used NO tax dollars and NO district funds for these renovations. This project was funded solely through private and corporate donations. The list of these 200+ individual and business donors can be seen on the brick wall entering the stadium as well as the large signs lining the stadium fence.

Is there a way to check up on my student’s grades, and know when he has homework or tests?

The Canal Winchester Schools uses Progress Book, an online system which allows parents and students to view grades, homework assignments, attendance and important information 24/7.   To view your student’s information you must have your parent account information (user name and password). To access your account information go to the front page of website and click on Progress Book then follow instructions for “Need Account Information”.
