Know the Facts

Canal Winchester Schools May 7, 2019 Ballot Issue

Residents in the Canal Winchester School District will vote on a levy renewal ballot issue this May 7, 2019.     A substitute emergency levy renewal that will go towards the daily operations and maintenance of our schools. It will not increase your school tax rate.

Emergency Levy- Official ballot language meaning that the levy is for a Fixed dollar amount and for a Fixed amount of time ($6.2 million per year for 5 years). It does not mean there is a financial crisis. Again, it is a legal definition, Ohio Revised Code 5705.194, which legislates the levy purpose.       

Here are the facts: 

  • This ballot issue is NOT a new tax. It’s simply a RENEWAL of the five-year substitute emergency levy and it will not increase your school tax rate. 
  • This ballot issue provides $6.2 million or 13.5% of our annual school budget. 
  • This RENEWAL LEVY will continue to fund the District’s daily operations which include maintaining staff and programs, and maintenance of our facilities.  
  • This ZERO tax increase is critical towards long term financial stability.
